Our Running Day will see a number of vintage buses gathering at the Middlesbrough landing of the iconic Transporter Bridge (TS2 1PL) and operating free, timetabled services from there to various places around Teesside.
There will be a bus every 15 minutes between the Transporter, Middlesbrough Bus Station and Stockton High Street. Our Running Day services run like normal limited-stop buses. You can board without booking at the Transporter, the Bus Station (stand 15), Stockton High Street (Stand J) and, on a more limited basis also at Norton Green, Yarm Town Hall and Eston Square.
You do not have to travel the entire route and can also alight from the services at any of these points. You can also interchange between buses at any of these points which are common to the relevant routes, Services run from approximately 1100 until around 1700 and a program will be available on the day to help you plan your travelling.
We are sorry but the program is not available in advance. It is not printed until the night before so that it can be as up-to-date as possible (things will always happen on the day!).
It gives background information on the buses which have been entered and details of each of our free service routes and timetables, including which buses should be operating which individual journeys. The program costs £5 and will be available from the Control Bus parked across the front of the Transporter Bridge office house. It is for information only (although it does make a very nice souvenir!) and you do not have to buy one to travel.
Subject to demand, we also plan our usual two Countrybus tours to Great Ayton and Stokesley. These trips are also free, but seats are limited.
To avoid disappointment, please make an early visit to the Control Bus at the Transporter to reserve your seat if you wish to travel on either of
Subject to the Transporter Bridge being available, one journey during the day will be carried across the bridge from Port Clarence to Middlesbrough.
Please be aware that nearly all of the buses running on the day are from the period before “Easy Access” buses became universal. Most are not wheelchair accessible and entry to them usually involves negotiating some steps. We will have “Inspectors” at the Transporter, the Bus Station and at Stockton High Street who will provide assistance, if that is needed.
Do come and join us and have a great day reliving bus travel of the past!
